Summary

I have to admit that I have gained some valuable information in process of producing this blog. This information is valuable basically because our world is in great danger in the future, and the effects may be irreversible! I think that every body in the world should learn more about global warming and know how dramatic the world will be if no action was made to stop it. The world is in a threat, and to fight this threat, the whole world has to work together to decrease the amount of carbon dioxide emitted to atmosphere and make the atmosphere go back to balance.

Some of the information I gained:

- Causes of global warming, and how it is processed theoretically.

- Effects on the world such as, increase in sea level, deforestation, etc.

- How to fight this threat.

Indivisual

Any sane person who researches on global warming and its effects on our world will work to stop it. About myself, from day one since I knew about these dramatic results that may come in the near future, I have built a list of tasks I will start to do or change. The list consists of tasks that contributes in increasing the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The list is as shown below:

- Decrease the amount of using my car. I could ride with my friend instead of meeting him somewhere.

- Decrease the amount of water I use per day, other than drinking.

- Stop smoking.

These tasks at the beginning will be targeting my self, and hopefully in the future I will make my family do the same too.

Global Warming and the UAE

Many countries around the world are currently being effected by the results of global warming, but countries such as the UAE and others in the middle east will be effected in the future if no action was taken to limit this world threat. The UAE can be considered as one of the countries that cause global warming, but to a smaller degree, mainly because the emissions produced come from automobiles, and construction only. Power plants in the UAE, which burn gases have been fixed so that no harmful emissions will be produced and let out to the atmosphere. The UAE is considered one of the countries that are implementing all the new technologies that can limit the emissions of excess gasses. Such technologies are the catalyst converters in cars, and many others in factories. In 2005, the government has banned importation of any ozone harming chemicals, which is considered a very brave and positive step towards helping the world fight against global warming.

Effect On Forests

Forests are needed in the world to balance the gas cycle, where humans produce carbon dioxide and forests take that in and produce oxygen. Carbon dioxide in terms on how it affects forests is quite different. As we know carbon dioxide traps the heat in the atmosphere and it traps some rays from coming in which are needed by many crops and plants, which causes them to die. The heat has an effect on the forests, where it causes many forest fires, and the upcoming days will witness more frequent events such as those. Fires will emit more carbon dioxide with high amounts, and the earth will loose plants that keep the carbon dioxide cycle going on.

Overall Efects

When people hear about global warming, the definition that strikes their brain is the increase of global temperature, but not the effects of this increase. There are many horrific effects that are happening day after day due to this heat, including rise in sea level, changed patterns of agriculture, unexpected weather events and increase of tropical diseases. This increase of temperature has a great effect on the ecosystem too, where a lot of birds cannot adapt with the new weather, which caused to the death of many of them. I have chosen to discuss about the impacts of this rise on forests, because so many people lack knowledge towards this area.

Methane - A Specific Cause

Methane is produced from rice paddies, bovine flatulence, bacteria in bogs and fossil fuel production. It is considered 20 times as effective in trapping the heat in the atmosphere as carbon dioxide. US studies indicated that the level of methane in the atmosphere has increased up to 145% in the past 100 years, which is a very big increase, and is helping in trapping more heat. When fields are flooded, then plants grow, CH4 is released to the atmosphere, which is a result of decomposition of the soil.

Causes of Global Warming Overall

There are many causes that are increasing global warming, and making this international enemy grow everyday. The main cause as we all know is the increase in level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. When high amounts of carbon dioxide are released to the atmosphere, there is no place to go instead of getting stuck there, and therefore the heat cannot pass through it and get trapped in the low altitudes. Carbon dioxide is emitted in many ways including factories, power plants, cars and basically anything that requires burning fuels. On the other hand, carbon dioxide is not the only reason of the heat getting trapped in the atmosphere, because deforestation and methane are considered dramatic causes too. Methane is considered the second strongest cause of the increase of the global temperature.

Global Warming

The world is facing a new problem in the 21st century, a problem that cannot be encountered nor solved unless the countries worldwide come together and find a solution. This problem is called global warming, where the earth’s temperature is increasing dramatically due to the actions of human beings. This heat is caused by excess gas emissions into the atmosphere produced by the combustion of fuels and other processes.

Most countries worldwide are turning industrial, mainly because that is the best way to gain the highest amount of income. Industry needs a high amount of energy so it can succeed, and the easiest/cheapest way to gain that energy is to burn fuels. When these fuels are burnt, gas emissions get stuck in the atmosphere and affect the greenhouse process, where the heat gets trapped in the atmosphere instead of it being reflected away from the earth.

Current solutions are constructed by many organizations to stop global warming from increasing, including, new sources of energy and implementing laws that limit the use of fuels. Unfortunately, those rules will not work unless countries come together.

About Me

My name is Mohamed Osama Al Mahmoud, a UAE national. I was born on the 23rd of February 1987. I graduated from the American International School in Abu Dhabi in the year 2004. Following that I joined the Petroleum Institute, and then transferred to the Higher Colleges of Technology to study Civil Engineering.

Many people consider me a social person who likes to debate about anything, basically because I am a person who likes to learn from others and spend a lot of time reading about other majors and sectors in life. I enjoy learning about politics the most and I have once participated as a Model United Nation candidate during high school.

My normal days are spent with friends sitting in coffee shops or playing group sports like soccer, volleyball. On the weekends my friends and I like to spend time away from our city, Abu Dhabi, and go to Dubai, or sometimes to the desert and spend the time on motor bikes and desert duning.
